Sunday 23rd April 2017 (Week 1 of Rehearsals)
We are currently in rehearsals for 12, a newly adapted hour-long version of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, edited by myself and Katie Walsh. We will be taking up this dragged-up extravaganza to Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year, running at The Space @ Niddry Street from 14th to the 26th August at 9:10 pm. We will be doing a preview as a part of 3BUGS’ Birmingham University Fringe Festival on Monday 12th June, time and venue are to be confirmed.
We had an extremely impressive set of auditions last term and this week we gathered our awesome six-person ensemble together for the first time. In the last few days they have been very busy, doing workshops, lots of dancing and warm up games and even creating make-shift performances of Twelfth Night. Not only this, but they have also been learning and performing songs with our awesome band that composes of Aron Sood and Tom Noyes. This has been my highlight so far because of how quickly and amazingly the cast have been picking up harmonies and performing them in such quirky and fabulous ways! While we are just in the exploration stage, I am so happy with how things are developing in rehearsals and I am already starting to see glimpses of fabulous moments we will be using in the show.
We are excited to be working with the LGBTQ society who will be assisting us in ensuring sensitivity is maintained towards all groups of the LGBTQ community. We look forward to continuing work and collaborating on future events with them.
